McDonald's Worker Sold Drug from Restaurant

JANUARY 16--A McDonald’s employee who recently served time in prison on a narcotics charge has been arrested for allegedly selling heroin from the fast food restaurant, police report. Theodore Levon Upshaw, 28, was busted yesterday after selling “20 stamp bags of heroin” to a confidential police informant, according to a criminal complaint. While Wednesday’s transaction took place in the eatery’s parking lot--after Upshaw took a break from work--the informant had “previously made multiple purchases of heroin” from Upshaw inside the McDonald’s in Murrysville, a municipality in Westmoreland County.

Following the buy, cops busted Upshaw--who was wearing his work uniform--on several felony narcotics charges, including heroin possession and delivery of heroin. He was booked into the county jail, where he is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Upshaw, pictured in the above mug shot, has been living in an alternative housing facility since his early release from state prison, where he was serving three years on a conviction for possession with intent to deliver narcotics

Typo sends readers on to adult hotline

WOODSTOCK, Ont. ─ Anyone can make a mistake, including a well-intentioned Ontario Provincial Police officer just trying to catch a thief. On Thursday, Woodstock Sentinel Review readers looking to provide information to Crime Stoppers about a daytime break and enter in Thamesford, Ont., were in for a surprise. A two-digit typo in an OPP press release ended up connecting people to an adult chat line called America's Hottest Talk Line.
"If you are looking for a hot man, you know where to go," a reader said after phoning the paper to inform it of the error published on the website. After dialing the 1-888 number, callers are greeted by an energetic female voice that says, "Welcome to America's Hottest Talk Line.""Ladies, to talk to interesting and exciting guys free, press one now," the voice instructs.
Guys, hot ladies are waiting to talk to you."It is not known how long the adult hotline has owned the 1-888 numbers, but it is not the first time the number has made an appearance in press releases. A quick scan of e-mails from the OPP and the Woodstock Police Service reveal that, in recent years, several e-mails directing residents with information about crimes to call the incorrect number. The typo also appears on websites across Canada from Red Deer, Alta., to Sudbury, Ont.

Smoking during pregnancy could make your baby gay, claims controversial study

Smoking during pregnancy 'could make your baby gay'
Smoking and drinking during pregnancy could make your baby gay and stupid, if the claims of a neuroscientist are to be believed. A controversial study has found that a pregnant woman’s lifestyle could influence their child’s IQ or sexuality.
Dr Dick Swaab – professor of neurobiology at Amsterdam University – claims that drinking, taking drugs or living in a area with high pollution levels have an impact on the development of foetuses and could affect children later in life. Taking synthetic hormones and smoking while pregnant can increase the chances of girls becoming lesbian or bisexual, while drinking and drug-taking could lower a child’s IQ, Dr Swaab suggests.

And the more older brothers a boy has, the more it is thought to increase his chance of being gay, it is reported. The study claims this could be because the mother’s immune system develops stronger responses to male hormones with each son that is born. Dr Swaab also believes living in an area of high pollution is linked with an increased risk of autism. He told the Sunday Times: ‘Pre-birth exposure to both nicotine and amphetamines increases the chance of lesbian daughters. ‘Pregnant women suffering from stress are also more likely to have homosexual children of both genders because their raised level of the stress hormone cortisol affects the production of foetal sex hormones.’ He added: ‘In women who drink a lot, cells that were meant to migrate across the foetal brain can end up leaving the brain altogether.’
However, Dr Swaab recognised lifestyle factors were a small influence and added that genetics play the most important role in child development.

Top 5 Trending Weird, Funny and sizzling news of this week
Here's a pizza topping we never expected to see offered. We understand that smoked reindeer is a favourite topping in Finland but python? Evan's Neighborhood Pizza in southwest Florida is offering customers a pie that includes a topping of fresh python. According to WPXI, The restaurant's "Everglades" pizza contains just about every living creature you'd find in the Sunshine State's swamps: frog, alligator and swamp cabbage. Owner Evan Daniell told the New York Daily News the unusual topping has been surprisingly popular. “We're selling them left and right. It's a happy accident; it's about being creative.
A medium 14-inch Everglades pie goes for $45, and that's because python meat can cost about $66 per pound. The station says Daniell has considered creating a "road kill" pizza, which would include raccoon, armadillo and possum but has had trouble finding a supplier for the specialty meats. Or customers, perhaps?

Top 5 Trending Weird, Funny and sizzling news of this week

CALGARY — Home is where the heart is -- and Jason Hastie says he just doesn’t have the heart to tear his down. The Calgary bungalow has to go: a growing family and lack of space and amenities in the 62-year-old house means Hastie, his wife and four-month-old daughter are planning to build a new on the residential lot. And so, not wanting to see the handsome 1,200 sq.-ft. house carted off to the dump, Hastie has posted his home on kijiji.ca, offering it to anyone in need of new digs -- and he’s throwing in $1,000 to help move the building to a new property. This house has been my home for the past 10 years and I have done many renovations to it. The LAST thing I want to see is for this to be torn down. It is an awesome house and would make a great home for anyone in need,” reads the ad. “Even if you don’t need a house, but know someone in need (perhaps someone who has lost their house in the floods this past summer), please contact us as well.
Dirt cheap houses aren’t a new thing, and plenty of people offer their homes for a pittance, hoping to defray demolition costs that can run between $10,000 to $30,000, depending upon factors like asbestos. But a look at such giveaway properties on sites like realtor.ca shows such homes are generally rough shanties, in desperate need of renovation. The bungalow belonging to Hastie, on the other hand, appears show-home immaculate, with renovations like a jetted tub and modern kitchen with an island and skylight.

KARLSHAMN, Sweden, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Swedish police said a disagreement about how a man should pay for his taxi ride ended with cabbie driving off with the man's kebab meal. Police said the man was driven Friday from Karlshamn to Morrum and when he arrived at his destination he discovered he was not carrying any cash, TheLocal.se reported Tuesday. The customer asked the driver if he could go home and get his debit card and the driver said he wanted to keep the man's kebab meal as collateral, police said. The man attempted to negotiate further, but the driver eventually drove off with the man's food. Police said the man initially reported the driver for theft, but changed his mind and dropped the charges, saying he understood the cabbie's actions.

Top 1-Man had an erection that lasted seven weeks

Top 5 Trending Weird, Funny and sizzling news of this week
Oh man, that had to be hard to deal with. An Irish competitive mountain biker had an erection that lasted seven weeks after he fell on the crossbar, doctors reported in a case study published in January's Irish Medical Journal. The 22-year-old man went to see doctors at a Dublin hospital after suffering with priapism - the prolonged unwanted erection for more than four hours without there being sexual stimulation - for five weeks. The man had perineal pain, swelling and bruising along with the rigid erection. "Manual compression" relieved the man of his symptoms, but the blood quickly returned to the penis. It took two weeks, but urologists were able to relieve the man of his constant erection and he did not suffer any side effects after he was healed.
